I've been finishing up some kitchen details so I can post the big 'reveal'. One of the things on that list was a new kitchen curtain. The valance I had up before was pretty but didn't go with the new color scheme at all.
It was too yellow-y for the new paint colors. Digging in my spare linens stash, I pulled out a valance I had made for our last house. I still love the fabric (tiny blueberries) but after living with it up for a few weeks, I wasn't feeling it for this kitchen.
blueberry curtain... wrong colors and not hemmed straight :) |
I looked in a couple of big box stores to see if I could find something but of course, nothing was the quite the right color scheme or the right price. I ended up finding some bright, cherry fabric with a bird motif at JoAnn's. It was pretty cheap with a coupon since I only bought a half yard. I probably should have purchased more yardage because I didn't end up having enough to make a rod pocket. Oops!
What I ended up doing was super, super easy though... I washed and ironed the fabric, cut the edges straight, and then hemmed under all the sides with a 1" hem (1/2" turned under, then another 1/2" for a clean edge). To hang the curtain, I cut lengths of grosgrain ribbon and then sewed it at evenly spaced distances along the top. Total sewing time was about 20 minutes.
I had a curtain rod in my decorating stash that was going to be for the laundry room but I didn't end up using it there. Bass did the dirty work of installing the curtain rod for me. The new curtain is so much better... the color scheme works, it adds some color to the new kitchen scheme, and it makes me smile.

Kitchen reveal coming soon!

I like this fabric for your kitchen valance - would you be able to tell me the name of it?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the fabric you used in the "easy kitchen window valance" valance? I am looking for fabric for my kitchen and the color scheme in that fabric I believe would look great. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Lisa. I don't have any info on the fabric. I bought it at JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts about a year ago. It was a cotton print but I have no idea who manufactures it. I tried searching the JoAnn's website but couldn't find it. Perhaps your local store would still have it in stock?
